Does anyone have any tips on moving to London?
hannahhh .X asked:
I'm seventeen atm, planning on moving to London next year to go to the royal college of music (I'm in Northern Ireland at the moment) but I've only been to London at couple of times before and have no ideas about accomodation, transport etc. I'd find it really helpful if someone shared their experience about their move to London, thanks

Flatshare: Gumtree but be careful. Share with other students. I'm sure your university will have a site too.
Transport: Get an oyster card. Only bother with a student card etc. if you know you are going to be using the train/bus practically every day. Live very central and walk everywhere, ideally.
Get out there: Socialise, be nice to everyone, put yourself out there a bit until you make a good group of friends. Don't be shy.
Don't worry too much. Lots of people are in the same boat. Just enjoy!

Sorry, I wanted to give a joke on this but since you are really in trouble, I would refrain from doing so…….
I can offer no help, since have never moved to London………………
But if you contact the Royal College of Music, they maybe able to offer you some guidance and help/support…… best of luckkkkkkkkkkk

I relocated to the London area last year from America. It is an adjustment, no matter where you are from, or how old. As for accommodation, I don't much like Gumtree, but I had success with spareroom.com. Don't rent anything unless you view it in person. You may also want to check with the College, sometimes they have special websites for enrolled students that offer affordable housing arrangements. Also, some of the hostels offer very affordable rooms that are secure and clean and can be rented long-term. My friend just moved out of one in the Notting Hill area (very nice) and she was there for many months and says it was ok.
Definitely get an oyster card (and then register it online so you can cancel it and get the money put on a new card if it gets lost). Public transport is easy and efficient–no worries there. Socialize with people as much as you can, you will probably make friends quickly…and have fun!
